The first project was developed in Uganda and involved the expansion of an existing small-scale producer, support to the development of local community-based smallholder fish farmers and the establishment of a sales and marketing company to ensure that we could get our produce to the market. Beyond Uganda, there was a strategic growth plan seeking to replicate this model across other locations in Africa in order to grow the volumes and range of our products.
BusinessMinds was ready to inject its own capital into the business, secured additional equity finance from an impact investment fund, obtained substantial commitment from two discretionary financing programmes, however did not succeed in securing the required portion of local debt in Uganda. The project could therefore not proceed and has been on hold since.
